We got to see the affection between the Former President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama has at several times. Both has been setting couple goals for the youngsters and we couldn’t imagine an another woman replacing Michelle. However, Obama’s biography, written by Historian David Garrow, reveals the woman who Obama had dated before Michelle.

Lately, Historian David Garrow’s new biography of Obama is making news for two reasons: firstly, for its length (1,400 pages) and secondly for its Obama’s former girlfriend before he dated Michelle.

Sheila Miyoshi Jager, the former girlfriend of Obama, who is now a professor at Oberlin College, was only mentioned in Obama’s 1995 memoir, Dreams from My Father. Garrow reports went little further revealing that their relationship was actually quite significant.

Jager said to Garrow that Obama asked her to marry him in the fall of 1986, but she said, “not yet”. She explained that her mother thought Obama, who was two years younger to Jager, was too young.

A year later, she recollects, Obama’s own ambitions changed. “I remember very clearly when this transformation happened, and I remember very specifically that by 1987, about a year into our relationship, he already had his sights on becoming president,” Jager told Garrow.

Garrow’ book gives more insight into the president’s personal life, containing when he started dating Michelle in the 1990-1991 academic year, he still saw Jager from time to time. Eventually, their communication waned to the occasional letter, particularly as Obama’s political ambitions and family life began to build.

Now Jager is married to historian Jiyul Kim.
